Madison Bach Musicians concerts combine performance with education. All events feature a pre-concert lecture, which enhances the audience's enjoyment and appreciation of the music. In these lectures Dr. Stephenson discusses and describes the composers lives, the music, and the historical context in which the music was written--often interweaving the lifestyles, thinking, and other art forms of the time. These historical descriptions, as well as comparisons with contemporary or modern life, deepen the audience's musical and intellectual appreciation of this great music.
The Madison Bach Musicians is dedicated to performing and making educational presentations to elementary, middle, and high school groups. At outreach events members of the Madison Bach Musicians bring their period instruments with them (e.g., harpsichord, baroque violin, baroque viola, baroque cello, baroque flute) for discussion and demonstration of baroque and classical style. Outreach helps ensure that this important type of music making remains a part of our cultural tradition. |
